Alister Hippisley-Gatherum claims top spot in the SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier at Northcote Stud

Alister Hippisley-Gatherum made his journey from St Andrews in Fife worthwhile when he delivered an unbeatable performance to claim top spot in the first SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier of the season at Northcote Stud in Lancashire.

Against Sixty-five other competitive combinations, the stakes were high as each and every rider was vying for one of the two qualification places on offer for the Championship Final which will be held at the prestigious Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, West Sussex next summer. The first round saw eighteen clears produced which left spectators with a nail biting jump-off in which nine double clears were posted before the all-important clock decided the winner.

Alister Hippisley-Gatherum and G-Star, his own 6 year-old bay gelding, proved to have speed on their side in the first round and after eyeing up the competition, went on to deliver another foot perfect round in the jump off. This partnership shaved 1.62 seconds off their nearest rival’s time to secure a double clear and first place in 34.47 seconds.

Second place went to Claire Shepherd from Manchester riding her own and Angela Nuttall’s 6 year-old grey gelding, Millfield Kaiser. This pair crossed the finish line with their double clear in 36.09 seconds.
