Germany's Felix Hassmann became a two-time winner at the Equestrian.com Liverpool International Horse Show when he won a thrilling Sunday afternoon speed class.
The competition, sponsored by Country Frog, provided thrilling entertainment as Felix held off a world-class field to triumph with Sl Brazonado following a blistering exhibition of riding at pace under pressure.
And it arrived after a win for the German on Saturday with his grand prix horse Cayenne, when the combination underlined its quality.
Several riders went close to Felix's time of 51.47 seconds, led by runner-up Robert Smith and Cimano E, who clocked 52.28 seconds, while 18-year-old Dutch challenger Sanne Thijssen was third aboard Ulena and John Whitaker fourth with his Rio Olympics ride Ornellaia.
Reflecting on the victory, Felix said: "It is a fantastic win My horse jumped superbly today.
"There were so many quick riders in the class, but I know my horse. He is very, very fast with his canter.
"Last year he won around 10 world ranking classes, and I am so happy to have won here at Liverpool.
"You never know if you are going to be quick enough, especially with riders like Robert Smith and Michael Whitaker to ride after you. They can go super-quick.
"You never have to push my horse. He wants so much forward, and he only gets angry when you hold him back!" |
