Helen Tredwell wins the Royal County of Berkshire Show leg of the International Stairway

The Royal County of Berkshire Show held the first International Stairway counting toward the 2018 league on Sunday and it was Helen Tredwell who took the win in fine style.

Taking on the five horse jump off, the 2016 league winning combination of Helen Tredwell from Finmere Buckinghamshire delivered a confident double clear on board Alan Tredwell’s 12 year-old grey mare, Larksong. This pair used their experience to pick up the pace over the newly shortened jump-off course, to crossing the finish line on a foot perfect double clear in 51.83 seconds.

Slipping in to second place was Mennell Watson from Solihull, West Midlands riding Whisper in the Wind, a 9 year-old bay stallion owned by Euro Sport Horse. This partnership stopped the clock on the final double clear of the competition in 51.86 seconds.

After rolling a pole at the penultimate fence, Robert Bevis from Wrexham, Clwyd finish in third place on board Kate Mustill’s 9 year-old bay gelding, Chablis E T. This combination finished in a time of 52.36 seconds with 4 faults.

Oliver Fletcher from Faringdon, Oxfordshire continued his recent run of good form to finish in fourth place on board Disckoboy D.N, a 9 year-old grey gelding owned by Lady Kirkham and Lady Harris. This pair posted a solid round finishing in a time of 62.30 seconds with just 4 faults, a result which is made all the more impressive when considering that 14 year-old Oliver is one of the youngest showjumpers competing in the International Stairway classes.

The International Stairway takes place across a number of county shows where winning combinations accrue League Points that count towards the Final which takes place at the British Showjumping National Championships in August at Stoneleigh Park. The series culminates with a high profile championships where three Horse of the Year Show International Wild Cards are allocated as well as it being where the sports National Champion is crowned.
