Jessica Howard Jumps for Joy in Haygain Pony Discovery Second Round at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe

Sunday saw The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe, Bedfordshire host a Haygain Pony Discovery Second Round. With the qualification campaign well under way, all forty-one competitors had their sights set on securing one of the ten qualification places available for the Haygain Pony Discovery Championship Final.

The Championship Final will be held during this summer’s British Showjumping National Championships and with all competitors focused on producing that elusive triple clear, it proved to be an intense class. The first two rounds saw the forty-one starters peter out, until there were just eight combinations left for the final jump off, all of whom battled it out for victory.

It was 13 year-old Jessica Howard from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire who rode into first place on board Claire Darwin’s 9 year-old grey gelding, Rocky Robin I. Drawn second to go in the jump off, the pair knew they had to pull out all the stops in order to claim the win and they definitely did just that! Posting a treble clear in a time of just 40.50 seconds, Jessica proved to be unbeatable as none of her fellow competitors could get close to that time.

Second place was taken by 15 year-old Phoebe Hill from Welwyn, Hertfordshire riding Joanna Hill’s 13 year-old bay gelding, Max X. This combination had the difficult job of being first out in the jump off but they held their nerve to claim their treble clear in 48.84 seconds.

Third place went to 15 year-old Chloe Wornham from Knebworth, Hertfordshire with Ballylee Boy, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by Karen Wornham. Chloe crossed the finish line in 48.86 seconds to secure a treble clear and a podium place.
