Lauren Edwards Secures SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier Win at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe
Monday 09 January 2017
Lauren Edwards from Stockport, Cheshire gave an unbeatable performance yesterday to claim victory in the SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe.
Sixty-six competitors initially took on the testing course and they were all vying for one of the two qualification places on offer for the Championship Final which will be held at the prestigious Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, West Sussex this summer. After a highly competitive first round, twenty-eight combinations earned their place in the jump off, where the tension really began to mount as fifteen riders notched up a double clear.
Riding Andrew Doswell’s 6 year-old dark bay gelding Boston 11, Lauren was drawn to go from the middle of the pack. Holding their nerve, Lauren and Boston 11 produced a lightning fast clear round but faced an anxious wait to see if they had done enough. This pair crossed the finish line in 34.51 seconds, a time which was to eventually leave them in the winner’s spot well ahead of their nearest rival.
Second place went to Ruairidh Bothwell from Orpington, Kent who rode his own 6 year-old chestnut gelding, Lord Gold. The combination produced a stylish double clear in 35.07 seconds.
