Megan Trott Sparkles for February’s NAF Shining Star Award

Long standing member of the Devon Junior Academy, twelve year-old Megan Trott from Dunkeswell, Devon has much to smile about after being awarded the NAF shining star for February 2017. With all British Showjumping Junior Academy Members eligible for nominations, it was Megan’s ambition and attitude toward her riding career that shone through.

Megan was nominated for the award by Lead Coach Mandy Frost who said the following about her nominee “Megan has been a member of Devon Junior Academy for 4 years and has always been a pleasure to help with her desire to learn. Megan is ambitious, dedicated and passionate about showjumping. All her hard work is now allowing her to reap the benefits with many wins throughout last season, including being part of the Devon Academy winning team on several occasions. Megan is always willing to help, including being the first person to help carry endless amounts of poles when we are setting up for our Regional Academy Camp. I can honestly say that Megan makes my job as a coach an absolute pleasure and really deserves this Shining Star Award.”

A delighted Megan added “I was so pleased when my dad told me I had been given the award. I have put a lot of work into my ponies and myself so it great to be recognised for that by Mandy. I began riding when I was four years-old and started showjumping at five years-old. I was competing at unaffiliated showjumping before attending a junior academy camp in 2013, which I really enjoyed so I joined British Showjumping two weeks later! Being a member of the academy is excellent, you get to meet people with the same interests as you and have the opportunity to have lessons with coaches from all over the country. My current pony and I have been targeting the Winter 138cm Second Rounds and although we have not qualified we have learnt a lot and are moving forward to compete in The Stable Company HOYS 138cm Qualifiers. I would like to say a big thank you to Mandy for all her help and advice she has given me and for running a great academy!”

Melissa Newman, NAF Brand Manager, added “Megan’s positive attitude, ambition and dedication towards showjumping has been the key to her success over the last season. Both individually and as part of a team Megan has shown great qualities and personal attributes; always willing to help out and be the first to offer support to her team mates. Congratulations Megan, a very deserving winner of this month’s Shining Star.”

Megan will kindly receive some NAF equine products to use alongside the supplements that she currently uses, which include; Electro Salts and Glucosamine for the everyday maintenance of healthy joints.

The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
