Michael Whitaker is second in 200,000€ Grand Prix

Nottingham’s Michael Whitaker travelled out to Rome, Italy last week for the CSIO5* International Show. Michael was accompanied by Beatrice Mertens GIG Amai II a horse Michael qualified for the 2011 World Cup.
 
With fences all standing at 1.60m and with the world number one, Kevin Staut and many more top International Riders all taking part in the Grand Prix, Michael was going to have to pull out all the stops if he wanted a place on the podium. Michael did exactly this jumping a double clear in a jump off time of 41.17 seconds, just one second behind the winner Eric Lamaze.
 
Also in the prize money for Great Britain was Warwickshire’s Nick Skelton riding Beverly Widdowson’s Carlo. This combination who also jumped in the Nations Cup on Friday, jumped a double clear in a slightly slower time of 44.13 seconds finishing in fourth positions taking a share of the 200,000€ prize fund.
