Olympic Star Scott Brash launches countdown to show jumping spectacular at Royal Hospital Chelsea

British Olympic gold medallist Scott Brash was joined by Chelsea Pensioners for the launch of the London leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour, which will be held at the iconic Royal Hospital Chelsea from 4-6 August 2017.

Brash, part of Team GB’s victorious squad at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, will be among the world’s leading riders in the capital this summer. Brash chatted with the Chelsea Pensioners who admired his gold medal and reminisced about their own horses and careers in the saddle.

Scott Brash said: “The Royal Hospital Chelsea is an incredible venue - to have an event of this level in the heart of London like this, is something really special. It’s a real achievement by the organisers, and something very special for the public to see. The GCT brings together the best of the best riders in the world, to the best locations around the world, so it’s only fitting we have a world-class stage like this for the British leg of the Tour and to have the UK on this international circuit. It was an honour to meet some of the Chelsea Pensioners this week, and I can’t wait to compete here this August in front of our home fans. I hope we get a great crowd to make a really fantastic atmosphere for this important event in our sport.”

The London event will see show jumping heroes from across the globe battling for towards the coveted championship title at the end of the 15-stage international equestrian circuit. The spectacular setting, in front of Sir Christopher Wren's dramatic Grade I and II listed buildings and next to the River Thames, will host an action-packed weekend of top-level riding from household names such as Ludger Beerbaum, Harrie Smolders, Kent Farrington, Simon Delestre, Marcus Ehning, Eric Lamaze and Maikel van der Vleuten.

Scott won’t be the only British rider hoping for a home advantage during the event, as fellow Team GB Olympians Ben Maher and John Whitaker, as well as Emily Moffitt, a rising star in the sport, take to the ring. They will tackle a technical course of up to 1.60m (5ft 2in) with a nail-biting display of skill and precision. In the dynamic Global Champions League team competition, local crowds will also have a chance to cheer on home city team the London Knights, sporting their distinctive red team kit – matching the famous scarlet-coated Chelsea Pensioners - to fight for the overall crown.

Founded by King Charles II over 300 years ago, Royal Hospital Chelsea has provided care and comradeship for veterans known the world over as the Chelsea Pensioners. As well as the excitement of watching the best riders in the world battle it out in the show ring, visitors can enjoy the shopping village with its multitude of food and drinks stalls and activities for all the family including the Kids’ Club.

Limited covered grand stand seats are still available priced at £20 (Friday and Sunday) or £40 (Saturday). There is also a £5 general admission ticket for access to shopping, kids club and an array of delicious food stalls within the event village. The main event on the Friday, the CS15* Global Champions League Round 1 kicks off at 16:30 with the GCL final taking place on Saturday at 14:15 before the much anticipated CS15* Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of London Presented by Sapinda at 17:45.
