Sophie Phillips delivers a winning performance in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at The Welsh Home Pony

The final Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round of the season drew pony riders from all over the country to the Welsh Home Pony held at Wales and West Show in Newport, Monmouthshire and it was Sophie Phillips who stormed to the top of the leader board and clinched victory.

A massive 111 combinations came forward to compete for one of the two Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for this October’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final, leading to three action packed rounds of showjumping. After two challenging rounds, just twelve determined combinations remained to go head to head against the clock in the final jump-off.

Sixteen year-old Sophie Phillips travelled from Warwickshire with Tracey Phillips’ 8 year-old bay gelding Valentino Supreme. In the final jump off, this partnership stormed in to first place with a lightning fast performance, rounding off their treble clear in just 41.90 seconds.

Claiming second place was Isabelle Ryder, aged 15, from Thatcham, Berkshire riding Cuilin Dun, a 6 year-old dun gelding owned by Simon Ryder. This combination took a steadier line to ensure they crossed the finish line with the final treble clear of the class in 50.41 seconds.

The riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
