Southerly Roberts is victorious in the Horseware Bronze League Semi-Final at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe

With a superb performance, Southerly Roberts stormed ahead of the competition to claim victory in the Southern Horseware Bronze League Semi-Final held at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe on Saturday. With this win, Southerly has secured her place in the Championship Final which will be held at this year’s Horse of the Year Show in October.

With seven qualification spot up for grabs, each of the forty-nine starters were determined as the class began, leading to a fierce battle for a place in the jump-off. With a show of consistent clear rounds, twelve combinations made it through to the final jump off where the pressure mounted as they took on the newly shortened course against the clock.

Producing a winning performance to make the journey from Hook, Hampshire worthwhile, Southerly and her 12 year-old bay mare Tinx were delighted with their first place finish. Delivering two strong clear rounds before heading into the jump off, they really picked up the pace to cross the finish line with a third clear in a fast time of 47.12 seconds.

Last year’s semi-final winners, Kerrie Goodwin from St Albans, Hertfordshire and her 21 year-old chestnut gelding Roscoes Golani, jumped in to second place. This partnership proved they were a tough combination as they put forward a strong challenge to stop the clock with a treble clear in 47.68 seconds, just shy of Southerly’s winning time.

Easing into third place was Abbi Jackson on board her own 12 year-old dark bay gelding, Christopher Robin IV. This combination took on the jump off course in style and delivered a treble clear in 47.87 seconds.
