The Animal Health Trust is very proud to announce this year’s British Showjumping Award nominees for 2017, selected by British Showjumping. Three young talented riders have been shortlisted for the prestigious title and will be judged in a new and exciting format; with the winner being selected by a panel of previous champions, including the 2016 British Showjumping Award winner Nick Skelton CBE.

Riding Hello Disckoboy D.N., a horse owned by Lady Pauline Kirkham and Lady Pauline Harris, Oliver showed maturity and talent beyond his years. This year also saw Oliver win a Children’s International Grand Prix in Wierden (NED) riding Dahar and most recently, both Oliver and Hello Disckoboy D.N. topped the British Showjumping Spring/Summer 2017 Young Rider League.

Iain Graham, Chief Executive for British Showjumping commented “It has been an exceptional year for our four youth teams who won a total of seven medals between them at their respective European Championships this summer. In addition to all the teams ensuring Great Britain of a place on the podium, the three nominees also went on to win Individual medals which we felt more than deserved recognition by being put forward for this year’s prestigious Animal Health Trust Equestrian Awards”.

2017 is a particularly special year for the Animal Health Trust as it celebrates its 75th Anniversary. Its work over the last 75 years has aimed at improving the health and welfare of all equines, from elite competition horses to beloved family ponies. The Trust’s vital research into equine infectious diseases and injuries has supported the education of horse owners and governing bodies such as British Showjumping, to ensure the good health of horses today and in the future. In particular, the sport has benefited from research into warm-up regimes for competition; kinematic assessments of a horse before, during and after a fence; and investigation of an equine athletes biochemical reactions during work. Results of which help trainers, riders and vets improve the performance of their team – which can mean the difference between winning, and losing.

The annual AHT UK Equestrian Awards will be hosted at The London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square on Tuesday 31 October. Tickets and tables are still available, but will be in high demand as guests have the opportunity to share an evening alongside true equine royalty and their favourite equine stars.
