British Showjumping National Junior Academy Championships

The inaugural British Showjumping National Junior Academy Championships meeting at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre, Stoneleigh, saw more than 400 riders gather over the three days.

Team Worcestershire came to the fore in the team competitions with two creditable wins. The Worcestershire Giants commandingly claimed the Advanced Teams with four fences in hand.  Pathfinder Megan Whitman on the 14 year-old Zagy, Laura Whittington with the Irish-bred 11 year-old Hayestown Diamond Lady, Holly Coles on the Ustinov 9 year-old Elamo Ustina and Lily Dean on the 9 year-old Luienne Q came home on 12 faults. 

The Phantom Pipers of Fraser Sinclair on the 15 year-old  Vladimir V, Karina Dunlop’s on the 9 year-old El Diviro, Stuart Muirhead aboard the 17 year-old Merllyns Mondena and Katie MacGregor on the 13 year-old Fogas Adare finished second on 28 faults with the North West 10 team of Pippa Jacobs with the 14 year-old Everfleur, Charlie Millin’s  aboard the 9 year-old Volante IX, Chloe Illingworth riding the 10 year-old Fuchsia Bloom and Claudia Jones on the 9 year-old Early Shirley in third on 32 faults.

A clear proved elusive in the Advanced Individuals and the clock decided as the top six all returned on four faults.  Lucy Rennie was the quickest on the 13 year-old Parkhill Legacy, winning by 1.53 seconds.  Lucinda May took second on the 13 year-old Funky Fever with Karina and El Diviro third.  Lily guided Luienne Q into fourth ahead of Laura’s Hayestown Diamond Lady and Alyssa Wright aboard Bekade in fifth and sixth places.

The Hereford and Worcestershire Lions landed the Intermediate Team title with a zero score.  Trailblazer Evie Taylor on the Ricardo Z 15 year-old Penanns Goldeneye, Ashton Attwood aboard the 8 year-old Flitz JH, Olivia Wilks riding the 7 year-old SFS Annette and Charlotte Hall’s the 16 year-old coloured mare J’s Anastasia all jumped clear for victory. 

The Scottish Redcaps of Isla Stewart on the 17 year-old Con 3, Abbi MacArthur with the 12 year-old Gemalin V/D Donkhoeve, Sophia Henderson aboard the 15 year-old Valentines Praline and Katie MacGregor on the 6 year-old Moschino I were 21 seconds in front but four faults dropped them to second.  North West Nine – Chloe Illingworth on the 10 year-old Market Luxury, Alannah Haldane with the 12 year-old Benvolio V, Ella Clarke riding the 7 year-old Walkers Sky High and Pippa Jacobs aboard the 13 year-old Ashton Landorina – also returned four faults but finished five seconds in arrears for third. 

Alyssa Wright galloped to the front to win the Intermediate Individuals with the Corland 15-year-old Lady Royale by 0.61 seconds.

Teigan McNamara claimed second on the 12 year-old Boston III with Lucinda May in third aboard the 15 year-old Nozem II.  The top six posted clears, Ella taking fourth on Walkers Sky High ahead of Isla on Con 3 and Katie’s Moschino in fifth and sixth places.        

The Unicorns of Scotland made the journey worthwhile with victory in the Midi Teams.  Ami Wallace with Irish-bred 22 year-old Dream Cruise, Amy Morris on the 17 year-old 138cm mare Forest Bramble, Jessica Speirs aboard the 19 year-old Mixed Spice and Jenna Ross riding the 13 year-old mare Little Star VIII claimed a 2.57 seconds advantage over the second-placed Kent Diamonds – Macie Ray with the 15 year-old Tower Hamlets, Elizabeth Baker aboard the 7 year-old Latinka TJ Van Overis, Ella de Munck on the 11 year-old Spot The Go Jo and Aneila Stevenson with the 6 year-old NPS Fizz. 

The Kent Emeralds of Amelia Simpson-McGinty on the 8 year-old Bobby’s Girl, Natalia Ramus and the 11 year-old Prince Ronan, Honor Redhouse aboard the 11 year-old Zara Queen of Hearts and Alfie Miles with the 11 year-old D Amour D Amerrier returned four faults for third.

Katie Woods Young triumphed in the Midi Individuals on the Irish-bred 12 year-old Appaloosa Apache Joe with just 0.19 seconds in hand over Elizabeth and the Plot Blue x Darco 7 year-old Latinka TJ Van Overis.  Amy pushed Forest Bramble into third with Ami on Dream Cruise and Jenna aboard Little Star VIII sharing fourth place after dead-heating on time.

The Welsh Wizards conjured up a win in the Maxi Teams, although it was tight with less than a fence in hand.  Pathfinder Grace Morgan aboard the 10 year-old Cruising For Candy, Ioan Cressey-Rodgers on the 12 year-old Posh IV, Taran Yate riding the 13 year-old Dyffryncothi Penri and Henry Nelson with the 12 year-old Derrymore Chips claimed the win on 12 faults with three faults to spare.

The Surrey and Hampshire Rockets of Jenna Good on the 10 year-old Western King, Fran Lupoli aboard the 10 year- old Benny’s Boy II, Poppy Foster with the 14 year-old Little Novelty and India Piper-Dadswell with the 19 year-old Firene finished second on 15 faults just one fault ahead of the third-placed North West Severn squad of Immy Kennedy on the 9 year-old Gwyndyucha Ko-Ko, Nicole Newburn aboard the 7 year-old Swift Wing, Grace Shuddall-Hughes on the 19 year-old Quincy V and Kitty Wierenga with the 8 year-old Carnaween Dawn.

There was nothing between Grace Plowman on the Irish-bred 15-year-old Fernville Max and Amy Morris with the 11-year-old gelding Tobar King as they broke the beam in exactly the same time to take equal first in the Maxi Individual. 

Henry was 0.84 seconds in arrears for third on Derrymore Chips with Ibble Watson in fourth on the 8 year-old Bookhamlodge Penny Lane.  Jenna Good took fifth on Western King while Francesca Young was the fastest by five seconds but four faults dropped the 12 year-old Quantico to sixth.   

Sussex dominated the Mini Teams and it was all about the clock with the top three clear.

The Sussex Hurricanes – Kate Simmonds on the 11-year-old grey gelding Toby Star, Harry Wilkins on the 14 year-old Stormin Norman, Ryan Perrett with the coloured 17 year-old Little Okehurst and Alice Crowley aboard the 17 year-old mare Lucky Charm IV – emerged victorious by 2.61 seconds. 

The Sussex Tornados squad of Fleur Jeffery on the 19 year-old Symondsbury Piper, Grace Gilbert with the 14 year-old Park Mr Smart, Ruby Light on the 20 year-old Hot Chilli Pepper and Ralf Birkby aboard the 21 year-old Tisrara Snowy settled for second ahead of the Norfolk Polly Wiggles of Georgia Johnson on the 8 year-old Midnight Thunder II, Sammi Barlow with the 18 year-old Forest Fern, Evie Bond-Smith aboard the 13 year-old Derrymore Lucky Lad and Lydia Dawson with the 8 year-old Jan Jan in third.

Beth Tabernor forged ahead in the Mini Individual for victory by 0.35 seconds on the 21 year-old My Last Rolo.  Ellie Ward finished second on the 20 year-old 138cm Farriers Gift with Lexie Arnold third on the 19 year-old Meadowbrook Wizard ahead of fourth placed Sophie Glover on the 16 year-old Dolly XI.  Ryan Perrett jumped Little Okehurst into fifth and Grace was also clear on Park Mr Smart for sixth.
