Celebrate 70 years of HOYS this October!

Monday 06 August 2018

Horse of the Year Show has been a firm favourite on the show jumper’s calendar for many years, and this October at Birmingham’s NEC the Show is set to celebrate its 70th Anniversary! Starting on Wednesday 3rd and running through until Sunday 7th, the five day show hosts a range of both National and International Showjumping classes with competitors battling for their chance to be crowned champion and get their moment cantering down the centre line in front of the cheering indoor crowd.

Wednesday through to Sunday will see hotly contested National Showjumping Championships each day, including the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship on Wednesday, the Equitop Myoplast Senior Foxhunter Championship on Thursday, the Equithème Leading Pony Showjumper of the Year on the Friday, the Speedi-Beet Grade C Championship on Saturday and The Stable Company 138cm Championship on Sunday to name just a few.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see the international showjumpers compete in an array of classes to include the Five Fence Challenge, the Puissance and the Leading Showjumper of the Year Grand Prix amongst others. On the Sunday night the Horse of the Year Show Leading Athlete will be announced ahead of the gala evening finale.

This year, aside from the five days of non-stop competition, we are delighted to be welcoming more displays to the show than ever before, with four fabulous entertainment displays to wow the crowds. The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment Musical Ride brings a great sense of patriotism to the Show whilst the Musical Drive of the Heavy Horses showcases our heritage as they harrowed the arena in between classes in the early years. The GB Vaulters “Show Time” brings something a little different to the fore and the mesmerising bridle-less dressage display from Alizée Froment “L’Esprit Equestre” is sure to impress as she showcases her incredible talent for the first time in front of a UK crowd.

Away from the arena, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved at HOYS whether that is by getting up close to the horses in the Meet the Horses Zone or getting that ultimate keepsake with the celebrity rider signings which will take place on the HOYS Live Zone. And if that’s not enough, visitors can immerse themselves in the Retail Village which is home to over 250 retail stands selling everything from equestrian clothing to homeware items. With so much to offer under one roof, and a fun-packed timetable, you’ll be sure to find something for every member of the family to enjoy.
