Stafford’s Katie Shaw and Fools Business return to reclaim their crown in the National 1.15m Members Cup Championship Final
Saturday 10 August 2019
In Day 5 of the British Showjumping National Championships, a tricky first round in the National 1.15m Members Cup Championship Final cleared out over half of the competitors to put 35 through to an equally challenging jump off. Winner Katie Shaw riding the British Bred horse Fools Business explained: “I expected there to be a lot more double clears but the jump off seemed to be catching people out all over, particularly that last oxer.”
From falls to retires, only twelve double clears came of a total of 78 starters in the last class of the day. The 18 year old gelding’s speedy victory of 35.17s in the jump off was closely followed by runner up Ceri Williams riding Dellrose Rosie with a time of 35.50s.
It was a combination of careful footing and a fast gallop to the final fence which set the pair apart from the competition in the end: “He’s always very quick and very careful, so I thought we were in with a good chance.”
The homebred grey, owned by Emma Sargeant, is no stranger to this Championship and has travelled from Stafford in the hopes of winning for the second time. As well as their win in 2014, the pair placed second in 2017 and third at last year’s show.
