The Hand Equestrian Centre in Somerset played host to two John Whitaker International Winter JA Classic Championship qualifiers. With a total of six qualifying tickets up for grabs both classes were fiercely contested.

The first of the John Whitaker International Winter JA Classics took place on the Saturday and was won by Darby Ward from Alderley Edge in Cheshire who was the only rider who managed to jump a triple clear round. Darby rode Carolyn Nevinson’s grey gelding, Maradonna who finished on a jump off time of 48.99 seconds. Darby also took second place on Bilton Ward Developments bay gelding, Enzo II. As Darby had already qualified on both her ponies the three qualifying tickets went to 3rd placed Beth Adams, 4th placed Amy Inglis and 5th placed Harriet Barsham.

Sunday saw the second qualifier take place and this time it was the current Pony European Champion and current title holder, Nottinghamshire based Beth Vernon who came out on top. Riding Allyson Blagg’s coloured mare, Cinderella Girl the pair jumped round in a jump off time of 37.28 seconds taking the first of the qualifying tickets with 2nd place going to Pulborough, West Sussex based Harriet Barsham and her mothers (Liz) grey gelding Bob Justice. Having already qualified the day before the second qualifying ticket went down the line to 3rd placed Devon Armstrong and her mother’s (Dee) black, gelding, Sheridans Archangel. The last qualifying ticket of the show went to Amy Inglis riding Mandy Hall’s grey gelding Cross Word.
