Northamptonshire's Dan Delsart donates prize money from the Bury Farm Bareback Challenge
Monday 29 February 2016
Over 2000 spectators arrived at Bury Farm at the weekend to watch the Bury Farm Bareback Challenge, in memory of Russell Pearson and in aid of the Air Ambulance.
The winner of the class was Ben Walker, closely followed by Northamptonshire's Dan Delsart.
Dan has very generously dontaed his £400 winnings, saying:
'I have decided to donate my prize winnings of last night to Cancer Research UK. I found it only fitting as at the first bareback class I competed at 3 years ago a Bury Farm I met the lovely Leanne Cox and her late mum Pam, who passed away with a very aggressive cancer, such a sad loss, we had a fantastic time with Pammy at many shows. Recently a very dear friend has been diagnosed and has undergone surgery for lymph and breast cancer. I know she would have loved to come and watch last night but having just had surgery a week ago, was unable to make it. I want to thank Bury Farm for making it a fantastic evening and everybody who helped me get Spring ready and we look forward to next year!'
A special mention also goes to Gareth Jenkins, who showed tremendous sportsmanship by taking part in this competition, raising well over his target £1000 and staying on for the whole course!
