Area Representative Position - Norfolk

Dear all British Showjumping Members – Norfolk

John Jacks has taken the decision to retire as Norfolk Area Representative at the end of 2017.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank John for his outstanding contribution over the years.  He has been a valuable point of contact for hundreds of riders, owners and organisers and has gone beyond his remit taking an active role in observing and regulating conduct, giving new show centres and members help and advice, organising national and academy teams, organising social events, AGMs, Committee meetings and identifying potential officials and venues as well as mentoring numerous course designers and judges – passing on his knowledge and expertise.

Ruth McKiernan (East and East Midlands Development Officer) said 'John has been Area Rep for 17 years in total and was also a Director for 12 years which is an outstanding commitment as a volunteer. It has been a privilege to work with John and I am so grateful for all of his help in the area.  I am pleased that John will be continuing his Judging and I am sure he will help the new Norfolk Area Representative settle in to their new role'.

Closing Date for Applications:  12 noon on Tuesday 12 December 2017 – Please note this is a voluntary position

Role Purpose: The role involves being a positive representative for British Showjumping within the Area’s to disseminate information to members. Area Representatives are to work closely with the Development Officers to promote British Showjumping to potential new members.

Key Tasks:

  • To be a point of contact for British Showjumping members to answer queries and be a point of information.
  • To be a pro-active communication channel for British Showjumping to its members and vice-versa.
  • To observe and regulate the conduct of members.
  • Communicate and work with the Development Officers on Area and Regional matters, i.e. clashing of show dates.
  • Hold an Annual General Meeting of the members in the Area and produce minutes and Annual Accounts for submission to the Chief Executive.
  • Hold a minimum of three Area Committee Meetings per year.
  • Advise new shows on the Association’s minimum standards and rules generally.     
  • To put forward a team for the National Area Team Jumping competition.
  • Identify shows and centres suitable for the allocation of qualifying competitions in the Area to Development Officer.
  • Identify potential coaches and officials and signpost these individuals enable them to achieve relevant qualifications.
  • Work with Development Officer and committee to arrange training i.e. Junior Academy, 5 Star Training.
