Lucy Palmers Journey to HOYS Qualification

Congratulations to Hertfordshire's Lucy Palmer who qualified for the Silver League Final at HOYS! Below is an insight from Lucy about how this partnership came about and how they have progressed over the last few years:

'After trawling through the internet one day I came across an advert from The Rowebuck Stud. He was outstanding!  After showing the video to my mother (who was combining that day) we both came to the conclusion that we had to see him. Much to my grandfathers’ disgust, the combine was stopped! He was a stallion at that time, but so quiet. He was loose jumped and that is where the partnership started between Ascon Z (Snoopy) and myself.

A couple of days later he arrived at the Farm. Since then I have produced him on myself. He has not been the easiest of horses as his concentration has been one of a goldfish, where sometimes someone only has to move suddenly and I will all of a sudden be going in the opposite direction to where I have wanted to go. So in the end of his fourth year we decided to geld him. He was able to concentrate more on his jumping after he was gelded, but his antics of winding everything else up on the lorry continued.

I owe a lot to the help and support that Greenacres has given me over the last 18 months. They have guided me towards moving up a level and jumping bigger tracks. He qualified for the four year old, five and this year six year old finals at Addington Young Horse Show. He has won numerous foxhunters also qualifying for the second rounds. He has won several 130cms and therefore qualified for Scope which unfortunately I had to withdraw from due to an accident that left me on crutches!

With the help of a wonderful team of osteopaths I am fighting to regain my fitness so I can compete at HOYS. I have always just been knocking at the door, this is a dream come true!

He is such a young horse but we make a great team. If I can only hold my nerve! He is a thrilling horse to ride and I cannot wait for the chance to ride him at such a prestigious venue – hopefully the first of many trips to HOYS!'

We wish Lucy and Snoopy the best of luck at HOYS and we hope that Lucy is fully recovered in time.
