NSJC British Showjumping Report from Easton College 18 & 19 February 2012

Norfolk Showjumping Club British Showjumping show at Easton College on February 18th and 19th.
Speed and daring was required to win classes during two days of top class jumping at Norfolk Showjumping Club’s British Showjumping show at Easton College. The highlight of the weekend was watching talented young horses and riders on course designer Stephen Dye’s long gallop to David Gayton’s fabulous wall standing at 1.45m as the final fence to clinch the £100 first prize in the 1.30m Open. First to go in the 5 strong jump-off, Suffolk based Emily Hilton lay down the gauntlet riding what looked to be an unbeatable round, with breath taking turns aboard the 7 year old mare Assy Sina. Rising to the challenge, near neighbour Claire Hansen with another 7 year old mare, Scott Neilson-Hansen’s Anderson’s Almare Marius took a stride out to the wall to break the beam a full second faster. With three more speed queens to follow the tension mounted but an unfortunate stirrup loss put paid to Caroline Fitzallen-Howard’s bid with Valeska, the winner of the previous class. Both Tamsin Conyers and Leanne Cox tackled the mighty wall at speed but tipped the top brick. Claire Hansen from the Capitol Stud in Hadleigh, Suffolk was delighted with her talented mare who has gone from success to success after winning the Equiport National Five Year Old Championships in 2010. Rikki Gradley had already made their journey from the Capitol Stud worthwhile by winning the 1.10m National Amateur Qualifier with Calaikonda.
Local Club members had proved hard to beat in the earlier classes. John Garrett riding his own Petit Pistolet jumped a superb double clear to win the Equestrian Clearance.com Newcomers. Whilst his sister Francesca Williams took the 1.05m Open with Starbrook. All or Nothing lived up to her name as she twisted and turned her way to victory in the 1.00m National Amateur Qualifier with Katy Peasley.
Sunday saw juniors from far and wide make the journey to enjoy some brilliant jumping in the superb Easton College facilities. There were classes for everyone from a 70cm open up to a 1.20 JC/JA Handicap, including three chances to qualify for the Blue Chip Championships in April. Ellie Archdeacon and her chestnut JA, Mr Bamboozle achieved the sole clear to win the final class making up for a traumatic day with lorry problems.    The Horse Quest U K Coral 1.10m Blue Chip Qualifier was also won by the sole clear, Out of Time ridden by Lydia Norton who has only recently taken over the ride from her brother. They had had a long drive from Lincolnshire but were doubly rewarded when they achieved their Squibb Demolition Foxhunter double clear as well. From 17 starters in the Horse Quest UK Sapphire Qualifier only Charlie Jones with Stephy III, Laura Amies riding King of the Ring and class winner Zoe Greeswell and the Artful Dodger made it to the jump-off. Three North Norfolk Pony Club members took the top honors in an exciting 1.0m Open speed class, Star Rocket – Charlotte Peasley, Stephy III – Charlie Jones and Ardenteggle Caesar – Elliott Armes.
Norfolk Showjumping Club committee are looking forward to the Uttings Insurance sponsored puissance at their next Easton College Show on March 17th and 18th, full details can be found by visiting www.norfolkjumping.com.
