Atlanta Vailionis

Wednesday 20 July 2016

Fourteen year-old Atlanta Vailionis is bound for the prestigious Horse of the Year Show at the NEC, Birmingham, in October after taking a commanding win in The Stable Company 138cm Qualifier on Sunday riding Stoney Burke.

The pair beat sixty-two rivals in the hotly-contended competition, where the seventeen first round clears were reduced to eleven for the jump-off.  And it was all about the clock as five treble clears were produced chasing the three HOYS tickets on offer.

Drawn seventh on the Irish-bred gelding Stoney Burke, an 18-year-old she took over from Robert Murphy two years ago, Atlanta from Wigton, Cumbria posted the winning round by 0.69 seconds.

She relegated fourteen year-old Faye Sutton from Whitchurch, Shropshire on Shutter Fly, another 18-year-old Irish-bred gelding, into second.  This partnership are heading to the Royal International Horse Show next Wednesday, 27 July, to contend the winter 138cm final in the famous Hickstead arena.

Third was awarded to yet another Irish 18-year-old gelding – Castlehill Ka La La coming up trumps for fourteen year-old Isabelle Ryder from Thatcham, Berkshire in the third HOYS qualifying place.
