BRITAIN’S VETERAN RIDERS SHINE IN FONTAINEBLEAU

Thursday 17 April 2014

A number of Britain’s veteran riders set sail across the channel to compete at one of France’s leading show venues, the Grand Parquet de Fontainebleau at the weekend.

The 1.20m Team competition took place on Saturday and following the conclusion of the first round the GB Team found themselves in the enviable position of sitting on zero faults, alongside France.  The British Team comprising Ann Berry from Folkestone in Kent, Laureen Evans from Ramsgate in Kent and John Williams from Shrewley in Warwick emulated their first round performances, all posting clear rounds in the second round also, this being matched by the French meant that a nail-biting jump off ensued.  First to jump off was Hubert Hannadouche for France who produced a very fast round but lowering the penultimate fence meant France finished with 4 faults.  He was followed by Ann Berry who was fast and clear to the last line but became victim to the final two fences to finish with 8 faults, leaving Great Britain in second place.

Whilst the highlight of the show for the British contingent was undoubtedly the Team Competition, GB riders took home prizes in other classes - Ann, Laureen and John Williams all featured in the ribbons in other classes, whilst Jennifer Patty from Crowborough, East Sussex and Lynda Birke from Market Drayton in Shropshire also brought home rosettes.
