Charles Stanley Sponsorship

CHARLES STANLEY ‘WELCOMED HOME’ TO SPONSOR THE BRITISH MASTERS INTERNATIONAL AT SOUTHVIEW AND THE WINTER JA CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP!

SouthView and British Showjumping are delighted to announce the return to the sport of one of the most popular sponsors of recent times.

Charles Stanley have lent their support to the British Masters International for many years commencing in 2010 and continuing at SouthView Competition Centre from 2011 to 2013.

In that period this popular show at the intimate Cheshire permanent show venue has helped see many an up and coming rider en route to world glory – not least a certain Mr Scott Brash who competed there alongside fellow 2012 Olympic team gold medal winners to be, Peter Charles and Nick Skelton, in 2011.

Hearing the news, now World No.1 rider Scott expressed his delight and said: “It is fantastic news that Charles Stanley have returned to support the British Masters at SouthView. We need shows of this level in the country and the link with the Winter JA class is brilliant. It is so important that young riders get the opportunity to jump at this sort of show – it sets them in such good stead for the future.”

Owners of the venue, Linda Wright and Charles Britton, have consistently pursued a policy of facilitating International jumping at high level to as large as possible a volume of British riders and making that available to a spectating audience at very close quarters.

Said Charles: “Our aim with this show has always been about delivering high profile International showjumping to a wider audience both in terms of participation and spectating. Back in 2011 there were very few International shows on offer and very few British riders were able to participate. We wanted to demonstrate to other show venues and organisers that a spectacular show could be delivered at a venue like ours, working on a sensible organisational budget, and as a totally dedicated showjumping event. We achieved that with Charles Stanley’s help and as a result there are a growing number of new International Shows being offered, now ranging from 2* to 4*.

“We have always wanted to host the British Masters at the level of highest prize fund 2*, or 3*, and Charles Stanley coming back on board has made it possible to continue this into 2016.”

What makes the new agreement between SouthView and Charles Stanley for the British Masters particularly exciting is the link-up with the Winter JA Classic Championship, a top 148cm class, for which pony riders can qualify at the series of Winter Premier Shows held at permanent show venues around the country each year.

Says Linda: “Charles Stanley’s approach to sponsorship is quite unique in that they are genuinely caring about the sports they elect to support. Our own ethos has always been to cater for all levels of competitors from tiny tots on lead reins upwards and in that way to help facilitate growth and development for all in equestrian sports, and particularly in showjumping. Charles Stanley fully support this stance and it is particularly rewarding to be joined by such a hugely successful organisation who champion the event not only in financial terms but in terms of a real belief in the value and long term purpose of the sport being offered.”

The Winter JA Championship has been hosted at SouthView along with ‘the Masters’ since 2011 and it has long proved to be a key indicator of the capacity for greater things of its young participants. Many who have featured in the event are indeed heading on to greater things – riders like Jessica Mendoza, a past winner of the Championship, now with major international successes under her belt and a key member of top British teams including the European Team of 2015 who secured Olympic qualification for the country!

Hearing of the agreement, said Jessica: “It's great News to hear that Charles Stanley is back at Southview. This show is not only a top international with a super atmosphere, it's a critical building block for young talent.

“The Pony Winter JA class gave me the chance of competing at an international show and being part of something special. The first time I jumped at the Charles Stanley was the moment I knew I wanted to be a showjumper.

“Welcome back Charles Stanley!”

Both Charles Stanley and British Showjumping have wholeheartedly echoed Jessica’s enthusiasm:

Said Paul Abberley, CEO, Charles Stanley: “It is with great pleasure that we recommence our sponsorship of the British Masters in 2016 –  which has undoubtedly earned its place as one of the highlights of the British and international showjumping calendar. We are thrilled that Charles Stanley’s support has helped ensure the Masters remains a premier event, which along with attracting the highest quality international riders, allows our own home-grown talent an arena to showcase their skills. Having been a rider myself, I am particularly passionate about supporting not only the accomplished adult riders but also the younger riders who I am confident will go on to be the next generation of British showjumping champions. I am extremely pleased that by incorporating the Winter JA Championship as part of the sponsorship, Charles Stanley can play a part in the development and early showjumping careers of these young riders. We look forward to what is sure to be another spectacular British Masters at SouthView in 2016.”

And Iain Graham, Chief Executive for British Showjumping commented “We are highly delighted to be announcing such a prestigious title sponsorship in the form of Charles Stanley. The British Masters is a tremendous showcase for our sport in addition to it giving both established and up-and-coming riders the opportunity to compete at an international show on home soil. With Charles Stanley’s backing,  we now all look forward to watching the show continue to develop further.”
