Do you want to employ well-trained, competent staff?

APPRENTICESHIPS: KEY FACTS FOR EMPLOYERS

Do you want to employ well-trained, competent staff?

Would you prefer to train your staff to YOUR standards and requirements?

……………..then an Apprenticeship could be the answer.  You may also be eligible for a £1500 government grant to help towards the costs of employing an apprentice.

British Showjumping and Haddon Training Ltd have joined forces to offer structured training opportunities for staff in Showjumping yards.  The key facts are:

  • The apprenticeship programme is designed by LANTRA, the land-based employers’ sector skills council, to meet the needs of equine employers.  The programme includes training in stable and horse-care management,  and also offers Showjumping employers the opportunity to train staff in specialist Units including:

  • Assist with day to day care of performance horses
  • Plait and trim horses’ manes and tails
  • Assist with care of performance horses after strenuous exercise
  • Assist with the care of horses at competitions
  • Clean and groom horses for appearance
  • Loading and unloading horses

  • Apprentices must be aged 16 to 23 years.

  • You must employ your apprentice for a minimum of 30 hours per week. The maximum working hours for an apprentice under18 years of age are 40 hours per week, or 48 hours aged over 18.

  • You pay a ‘training wage’ to your apprentice of £2.68 per hour (this is the minimum and you may increase this).  Apprentices aged over 19 years who have completed one year of their apprenticeships must receive the national minimum wage.

  • Most apprentices will start with a Level 2 (Intermediate) Apprenticeship and many then progress to a Level 3 (Advanced) Apprenticeship.  Each will take between 12 and 15 months to complete.  This sometimes includes maths and English tuition (provided by Haddon Training).

  • You deliver the training and Haddon Training supports you all the way with advice and direction on how to support your apprentice.  Haddon Training visits you and  your apprentice every 5-7 weeks to support him / her with the qualification.
