Four Northern Riders accepted onto the AASE Programme

British Showjumping is pleased to announce the third intake for the government funded Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) for talented young riders following on from the second cohort finishing last week. Twenty six aspiring showjumpers have been selected on to the programme.

The Apprenticeship is run in partnership with Haddon Training Ltd. The programme allows the opportunity for talented riders to develop their potential as a professional showjumper whilst continuing their education and gaining a level 3 qualification.

The Apprenticeship covers all aspects involved in becoming a professional athlete by developing their technical and tactical skills as well as the lifestyle aspect.   The athletes will be supported by top showjumping coaches, sports’ psychologists, nutritionists and fitness experts to help them prepare all aspects within their future professional careers within the Showjumping environment.

This year long Apprenticeship will commence in October when the first training camp takes place.  There was a significantly higher amount of riders applying this year only serves to show the scope of the programme and the high calibre of success it brings.

The successful riders from the North that have been selected for the third intake are:

Alex Gill (North Yorkshire)
Debbie Lawrence (East Yorkshire)

Debbie Lawrence from East Yorkshire (Area 15A)  pictured in action told us " I was so pleased when I received word that I had been accepted onto the AASE programme. This training is something I have never undertaken previously and whilst I am feeling a little nervous due to not knowing what to expect, I am also feeling excited and positive about the prospect of attending the apprenticeship and learning more about become a better show jumper".
