Luke Hill claims the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Pyecombe Horse Show

Pyecombe Horse Show held at Brendon Stud in Brighton, West Sussex played host to one of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Rounds on Sunday during their Second Rounds show and it was Luke Hill who fought off his rivals to come out on top.

With just two qualifying tickets available for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during Horse of the Year Show in October, all combinations were aiming for a treble clear. With an initial starting field of eighty-one, course designer Rafael Suarez set his usual challenging track, cutting the numbers down by a quarter for the second round and leaving thirteen to battle it out in the final round.

Luke Hill from Malton, North Yorkshire steered the Billy Stud’s Billy York, a homebred 6 year-old mare by Cevin Z, to an effortless victory, making the most of every short cut on offer. They crossed the finish line in 38.75 seconds pushing Chris Whinnett into the runners up spot. Chris piloted his own Bonne Du Rouet Z, a Dutch bred 7 year-old whom Chris started competing in January; they posted a time of 39.49 seconds.

Close behind in third place was Timothy Page with Emily Smallman’s Hillcoote Border Fox, they produced a time of 40.10 seconds. Fourth place went to Alex Bishop and Matt Pike’s Fres Belles whilst Amy Barrett picked up fifth with Julie Barrett’s Colton Bandit.

The top two combinations secured their place in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show and the top five took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
