Rachel Proudley scores a win in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at the Harbro Scottish Home Pony

Tuesday 23 July 2019

The Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round took place on Sunday during the Harbro Scottish Home Pony Show at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre (SNEC) in Broxburn, West Lothian and it was Rachel Proudley who gained herself another direct qualifying ticket, this time with David Wick’s Robe Silver Lady.

Thirty-eight competitors came forward with the hopes of obtaining one of the four Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final, held at Horse of the Year Show in October. But Course Designer Mark McGowan had set a tough track with only eight combinations making it through to the final round.

Fourteen year-old Rachel from Whitby, North Yorkshire had already claimed one ticket with Family Affaer II after winning the qualifier at Keysoe last month but this time returned with Robe Silver Lady, a 13 Year-old Irish bred mare whom Rachel took over the ride on at the end of last month. They crossed the finish line in 37.86 seconds. Daisy Williams and Jill Williams’ King III came nail bitingly close after crossing the line just 0.12 seconds behind to finish in second place.

Tabitha Kyle, a recent recipient of a Team Bronze medal at the Children on Horses European Championships, claimed third place with Sofia Massarella Coope’s Nightgirl Van Het Sonnishof Z, they produced their round in 39.15 seconds whilst Ava Vernon secured the final ticket with Dean Vernon’s Major Obos, crossing the line in 40.03 seconds.

The top four combinations secured their place in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show and the top eight took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
