RETRAINING OF RACEHORSES AWARDS CONTINUE INTO 2013

British Showjumping and Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) are pleased to announce that the Retraining of Racehorses Recognition Awards will be continuing into 2013. If you own or ride a retrained racehorse, why not give British Showjumping a go? You could be eligible to win one of six cash awards that are on offer, with £2,500 being made available to the winner of the National Recognition Awards. There are also eight Regional Recognition Awards available for those retrained racehorses competing in Club competitions, with supporting rugs and jackets to be given to the winners.

The RoR Awards are split into two categories, the National Recognition Awards and the Regional Recognition Awards. To ensure that you and your retrained horse are eligible for the awards, your horse will need to be registered with both British Showjumping and RoR.

RoR National Recognition Awards
The National Recognition Awards are open to those owners and riders of retrained racehorses that are registered with both British Showjumping and Retraining of Racehorses. These awards are aimed at encouraging and identifying retrained racehorses that are competing nationally with British Showjumping.

A cash award will be given to the owners of the six highest graded horses that have been awarded the highest number of Notional Prize Money during the twelve month period between 1st October 2012 and 30th September 2013 and the cash awards are broken down as follows: 1st - £2,500, 2nd - £500, 3rd - £500, 4th - £500, 5th - £500 and 6th - £500.

To encourage competition, all previous winners (1st placed horses) will no longer be eligible to win cash awards in the same competition in subsequent years.

RoR Regional Recognition Awards
There are eight Regional Recognition Awards available for those retrained racehorses competing in Club competitions. The winner from each of the eight regions will be identified by selecting the highest placed eligible horse with club league points in the 1.00m section. If none qualify, it will move to the highest placed eligible horse on the 0.90cm club league working downwards until a horse is identified. Each winner will be awarded a jacket and an embroidered rug.

The RoR Awards have grown in popularity since their inception back in 2010 and Di Arbuthnot, Chief Executive at RoR commented, “One of the objectives of Retraining of Racehorses is to promote the ex-racehorse in other equine disciplines. With this in mind, these awards were created to provide a focus for retrained racehorses competing in the discipline of showjumping. I am pleased with the growth of the awards and the series has proved that Thoroughbred horses have great potential for success in another sphere.”

Retraining of Racehorses:
The Retrained Racehorse awards are generously sponsored by Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) which is British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses that have retired from racing.   Their ultimate goal is to achieve a balance between the number of horses leaving racing and the number of enthusiastic, and suitable, new homes.  For further information on the work of Retraining of Racehorses and the other competition series that they support please visit their website at www.ror.org.uk
