West Yorkshire Supporting Talented Athletes Recognition Scheme

Supporting Talented Athletes Recognition Scheme.

The STARS scheme is the only one of its kind within the West Yorkshire area. There are currently over 70 GB or top 20 ranked athletes registered on the scheme across 20 different sports. Athletes range between 13 and 64 years old and live, study or train within West Yorkshire.

Vision:

Support West Yorkshire’s most talented athletes to perform on the world stage.

How:

The scheme provides nationally ranked sports athletes with free access to participating sports facilities in the county, for personal training and development. We are also developing further benefits for STARS athletes.

Leeds Trinity University has a service called Trinity Performance which provides sport science services and specialist workshops for athletes. STARS athletes can benefit from a 25% discount on all fitness assessments and sports science services. STARS athletes may also attend their workshops free of charge. Click here to find out more:

Jamie Bell Physiotherapy

Jamie Bell Physiotherapy has 4 clinics across West Yorkshire with more planned in the near future. They are offering a 10% discount on all physiotherapy assessments and treatment for STARS card holders and will provide a free session for the 10th session. Please click here for more information:

Criteria for Eligibility

The STARS scheme aims to provide opportunities for athletes, including those with disabilities who are:

1.A current national sports person. Where current is defined as being part of the national squad within the last 12 months, currently in the top 20 of their governing body ranking list, or currently part of the national training programme; and

2.Either a resident in West Yorkshire for the majority of the year, member of a West Yorkshire club or studying in West Yorkshire; and

3.Able to provide national governing body evidence to support their application.

4.Part of the amateur game. i.e the scheme is not for professional players.There are no age restrictions for applicants to this scheme

If you are a new athlete to the STARS scheme;
Complete the form below and send, along with a passport style photo, to wys.admin@wysport.co.uk or STARS applications, West Yorkshire Sport, Nepshaw Lane South, Gildersome, Leeds, LS27 7JQ.

If you already have a STARS card and would like to renew it for 2013/2014;
Complete the form at the bottom of the page. Please ensure you supply some evidence of ranking or national team position for the 2013/2014 year.
If you would like your photograph updated on your new card please attach a photo to your application.
