Edinburgh’s Rowan Ball Wins the December NAF Shining Star Award

The NAF Shining Star Award for the month of December has been given to 17-year-old Rowan Ball from Edinburgh, Midlothian. Rowan is a keen and hard working young showjumper and she has been awarded the NAF Shining Star because of the enthusiasm and commitment that she has shown during her time as a member of the British Showjumping Central Scotland Junior Academy.

Aileen Craig, the lead coach for the Central Scotland Junior Academy nominated Rowan for the NAF Shining Star Award “Rowan is a pleasure to teach and has gone from strength to strength through attending the Central Junior Academy. Whether it is with her young horse or her more experienced horse, Rowan is always keen to learn and improve. She qualified and was part of the Scottish team that went to the Junior Academy team finals at Weston Lawns in 2012. She is always friendly and eager to learn and she gets on well with all the others in the academy, be it younger members, or her peers.

“Rowan is always punctual, helpful and she is a delight to have in the Academy. I believe Rowan deserves this award for her determination and achievements in recent months and I have high hopes for her progressing even further in 2013.”

Last year, Rowan, riding her mother’s (Ruth Ball) 11 year-old grey mare Vandora, was crowned the winner of the National Amateur 0.90cm Championship which took place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre (15th – 18th November 2012). Rowan’s plan for 2013 is to bring on her 6-year-old gelding Bon Ami V with whom she is aiming to jump internationally.

Rowan was really pleased to hear that she had won the NAF Shining Star Award “I have to thank everyone who has been involved with the Central Scotland Junior Academy, especially Aileen Craig. I also would like to thank my coach David Harland and my Mum and Dad. I’m really looking forward to competing throughout 2013.”

Tracey Lloyd, Marketing Manager for NAF commented “Many congratulations must go to Rowan on her achievement. On behalf of everyone at NAF, I would like to wish you all the best for 2013 and I hope your achievements continue.”

The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
