FOURTH SCOTTISH ACADEMY CAMPS SUCCESS FOR 2015!

In 2015, due to the demand, the Scottish Camp was split into two, Horse Camp and Pony Camp. With the first year of horse camp open to all on horses from the age of twelve upwards it was fantastic to have 40 attendees and the Pony Camp accommodating 57 attendees.

The Scottish Horse and Pony Academy Camp 2015 held at and sponsored by the Scottish National Equestrian Centre (SNEC) were held on 30th June to 2nd July for the Horses and the 14th to 16th July for the Ponies.

All attending the camps took part in two days intensive training and the third day competing at an Academy Show. The venue, stable staff, college staff, coaches, officials and volunteers really stepped up to the challenge and once again helped to achieve another successful year of camps for the Scottish Academies.

The level of instruction with our coaches; Nadine Warwick, Karon Carson, Andrew Wilson, Andrew Hamilton and David Harland was again superb and the feedback from the riders was extremely positive. A big thank you to all the coaches for putting in their hard work and expertise to ensure the riders left with big smiles on their faces.

The evening activities rolling on from the success of last year incorporated one night staying on site at the SNEC and a bus was hired to transport the camp attendees off site for the second night. The Horse Camp had Equibuddy Vaulting group where the attendees were able to take part and have a go, with the second night venturing offsite to enjoy an evening of bowling and pizza at the World of Bowling in Edinburgh. For the Pony Camp the first night was spent with Pyroceltica, a group who teach circus acts finishing with a fire display for all to watch, they certainly kept the children entertained. The second night we went to the amazing Time Capsule swimming pool in Coatbridge again which had flumes, wave machines and other water delights. With a full coach of 57 people it was super to let them all loose in the swimming pool to have some fun.

Throughout the rest of the Camp there were vet talks from Douglas McRobbie and Chris Calder, SSPCA talks, Judges talks from Jane Pelly and John Ormiston, tack inspections, schedules and points discussions, Top Spec sessions on the weigh bridge, Rosette Making, and a fitness class each day with the third day hosting a show.

The show was held to qualify Teams and Individuals to represent Scotland at the National Inter Academy Team Event at Weston Lawns which is on 18th – 20th August 2015 up to the rider age of 21 years. Teams and Individuals have been selected to compete between 70cm – 1.20m and with the help of Academy Camp funds raised, we will be able to pay for the qualified riders entry fees and hopefully something towards their travel to help them make the journey south. The final qualified teams and individuals will be advertised once finalised.

The competition and motivation to qualify from all children throughout the Camp and on the Show day was extremely inspiring in the hope they could represent their country in August 2015.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, the staff at the SNEC and Oatridge College, Sinclair Photography and of course the sponsors that helped made this event the roaring success it was.

Sponsors for the event were: The SNEC; Browns Equestrian Tack Shop and Aileen Craig.
