Bethany Stephens from Callington, aged fourteen achieved 1st place last month in the Just for Schools 70cm League Class at Tall Trees Arena

Bethany Stephens, aged fourteen from Callington, Cornwall achieved 1st place last month in the Just for Schools 70cm League Class at Tall Trees Arena. Riding for Callington Community College, Bethany and her pony Tregeretha Jacca, otherwise known as Jack, rode double clear with a fast time that proved hard to beat.

Speaking afterwards about her performance Bethany said “Jack can be a very spooky pony and I am never sure how he is going to react, however, when he is in the right mood he will jump anything! However he was a very good boy and listened to me the whole way round so I gave him lots of polos afterwards!”

Fiona, Bethany’s mum, enjoys the great camaraderie and support shown at the competitions and commented “Bethany joined the ‘Just for Schools’ League to develop and progress with Jack in a supportive environment and have some fun with her friends”.

After qualifying and competing at the British Showjumping National Championships last year, which Bethany described as an experience she will ‘never forget’, she hopes to do it all again this year. She added “I like the ‘Just for Schools’ league because I can ride in a team with my friends and it is exciting watching our position in the league because it gives us targets to work towards”.

The ‘Just for Schools’ League run by British Showjumping offers riders the chance to compete Individually or as a Team in classes ranging from 70cm to 1.10m with the chance to qualify for the British Showjumping National Championships held at Stoneleigh Park in August 2018.
