The Dodson & Horrell 85cm and 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds started in earnest at the weekend at Badgworth Arena in Axbridge, Somerset, with riders aiming for the popular Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool on 13 – 18 November 2018.

Dodson & Horrell 85cm National Amateur Second Round

Laura Leigh from Wolverhampton secured the top spot in the Dodson & Horrell 85cm National Amateur Second Round with a fast, decisive round on Swansong II.

Ten of the eighteen starters accessed the jump-off with first round clears over a 10-fence course and it was all about the clock as five posted double clears. Laura was on form with the 22-year-old Swansong II, a mare she has ridden for three and a half years, to gallop ahead for victory with 0.41 seconds in hand. Laura is pictured on Diesels Rumour, with whom she finished fifth.

Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round

Natalie Moore raced ahead to take victory in the Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round with Sunshine Spirit.

Nine provided first round clears over course-designer Sam Pepperall’s 10-fence track but Natalie from Callington in Cornwall had the win sewn up. She used tight lines at an optimum pace with her own Sunshine Spirit, a British-bred nine-year-old mare she has competed from British Novice level for the past 11 months, to win by 0.39 seconds.
