Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Bicton Arena

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds continued on Sunday 16th September 2012 at Bicton Arena in Salterton, Devon. Following a season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.

Bicton Arena was the venue for two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds, consisting of a 1.00m National Amateur Second Round and a 1.15m National Amateur Second Round. The starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships.

Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round.
The Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round attracted 23 starters in total and from these starting combinations, 12 horses and riders made it through to the jump off. This meant that all those who had made it through into the jump off had secured their place in the Championship Final. The jump off saw three combinations achieve a double clear to ensure they took the top places and the remaining qualifying places came down to the fastest faulted times.

The overall winner was 18-year-old Abbey Jeffrey from Penzance, Cornwall and her win came on board her own 12-year-old chestnut mare, Morene Manciaise. Abbey steered her mare to her second clear in a time of just 40.64 seconds to secure the win and her place in the Championship Final.

Second place was taken by 15-year-old Jasmine Abraham from Hampshire. Jasmine rode Maxwell II, a seven-year-old grey gelding, owned by Samanatha Abraham. The combination achieved their second clear in a time of 40.83 seconds to ensure that they secured second place and they did so with nearly four seconds in hand.

Third place was occupied by 20-year-old Phillippa Barbour from Barnstaple, Devon and she secured her Championship Final place on board V Kalies, a ten-year-old bay gelding owned by Anthony Hartnoll. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 44.63 seconds.
