Matti Mercer aged 14 from Trull, Somerset secured first place last month in the Schools 1.00m League Class at Kings Sedgemoor Equestrian Centre. Riding for Kings School Taunton, Matti and her horse Jack In The Box IV, otherwise known as Jack, jumped a great round and were the only combination to jump double clear.
Speaking afterwards about her performance Matti said “Jack is an incredible horse to ride. He has wonderful paces, a bouncy and forward canter and a very powerful jump, however, he can be a little spooky and occasionally sharp. To ensure I secured myself the win at Kings Sedgemoor Equestrian Centre I had to ride Jack forward into the contact so he was only able to focus on me and not the scary fillers!”
Proud mum Wendy shared what she likes about the league “I love the flexibility and relaxed atmosphere and I definitely think that ‘Just for Schools’ has helped improve Matti’s riding and equally enabled lots of fun without the stress!”
Encouraged by her success Matti explained “By joining ‘Just for Schools’ I have been able to sample what British Showjumping is all about and what it can offer. My aims with Jack this year are to qualify for the National School Finals and to join as a National Member and compete in some Newcomer classes.”
The ‘Just for Schools’ League run by British Showjumping offers riders the chance to compete Individually or as a Team in classes ranging from 70cm to 1.10m with the chance to qualify for the Championships.
