Polly Smith from Gloucestershire Wins the NAF Shining Star Award for December

~~Young show jumper, Polly Smith from Gloucestershire has won the NAF Shining Star Award for December 2013. Aged just twelve, Polly has already proved to be an active and dedicated member of the British Showjumping Gloucestershire Junior Academy.
Nicky Florence, Lead Coach for the British Showjumping Gloucestershire Junior Academy, nominated Polly for the NAF Shining Star Award. Having known Polly for just under a year Nicky had the following to say about her nominee “Polly is a polite, dedicated, self-motivated rider who is a delight to train.
“Since joining British Showjumping in April 2013, Polly has been attending the Junior Academy training sessions and she has had great success with all three of her ponies. Each pony is very different and Polly has shown the skill and horsemanship required to get results from each of them. She is a quiet, sympathetic but positive rider which the ponies appreciate.”
During 2013, Polly qualified both Sweet Honesty and Micky V for the Alexander Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Polly and Micky V have also gained their four double clears required for the Pony Discovery Second Rounds.
Polly has enjoyed the opportunities that have been available to her since joining British Showjumping “I got involved with the Gloucestershire Junior Academy because I wanted to make the most of the training sessions and practical horsemanship sessions. Via the Junior Academy, I am also working through the NAF Pony Five Star Performance Awards Programme as it gives me focus to achieve my riding goals and I am working towards my 3* at the moment.
“I was really pleased to hear that I had won the NAF Shining Star Award and I want to thank everyone who has been helping and supporting me, especially my coaches, Nicky Florence and Bryan Smith, my parents and of course my ponies.
“For 2014, my plan is to try and qualify for the Pony of the Year Show alongside gaining my four double clears for the Pony British Novice Second Rounds on my newest pony, Lady Eleanor.”
Tracey Lloyd, Marketing Manager for NAF commented “Congratulations Polly! We wish you continued success for the future and wish you well for your progression through the Pony Five Star Performance Awards Programme.”
The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
