Derek Morton seizes victory in the Equitop Myoplast Senior Foxhunter Second Round at SouthView Competition and Training Centre

Derek Morton bagged the top ticket in the Equitop Myoplast Senior Foxhunter Second Round with three foot-perfect rounds on the talented KBS High Quality at SouthView Competition and Training Centre.

Eighteen of the thirty-four starters posted initial clears over course-designer Raf Suarez’s 12-fence track but a raised and shortened course in round two effectively reduced the number to six for the timed jump-off, a seemingly innocuous vertical at number two claiming several victims.

The final round was all about jumping with just two achieving the desired treble clear to fill the HOYS qualifying places. Derek set the target from second draw with Zoe Snedker’s KBS High Quality, an OBOS Quality 004 x High Roller 7-year-old originally viewed as a working hunter prospect.

“He was a little too sharp to be a worker, but Zoe fell in love with him – she owns working hunters who occasionally showjump but this is the first time owning a proper showjumper,” said Staffordshire-based Derek, a member of the triumphant team gold medal winning British team at the Veteran European Championships two weeks earlier with this gelding.

“He’s the most amazing horse, he feels like he can jump the moon,” he said.

Nicole Pavitt made the journey from Sussex worthwhile, maxing on her final draw to provide the only other treble clear to take the second qualifying place on Carol Littlehales’ 9-year-old Edinburgh.

The combinations placed third to fifth took home the chance to compete at the British Showjumping National Championships.
