Rachael Connor held her nerve on Saturday to win the hotly contested SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier at SouthView Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire.
All sixty-three competitors were in strong pursuit of the two qualifying tickets up for grabs for the Championship which takes place at the Longines Royal International Horse Show in July. Thirty-four made it through to the jump off, offering a nail biting finish for spectators and riders alike.
Rachael, who is from Rossendale, Lancashire, rode her own 6 year-old bay mare, Fantastic, and the pair had their work cut out as they had to kick off the thirty-four strong jump off. Rachael and Fantastic put the pressure on all other competitors after producing a blistering double clear in 34.68 seconds and after a nervous wait, their time proved to be fast enough for the win.
Adam Botham from Radway, Warwickshire claimed the second qualification spot with John Steels’ 6 year-old chestnut gelding, Diego Deal. This combination also clocked up an early double clear, crossing through the finish in 35.14 seconds.

The next SEIB Winter Novice Championship Qualifier will be held at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre on Sunday 28th February 2016.
