AMANDA SHORT
Friday 19 August 2016
It is with great sadness that we inform you that Amanda Short, a Level 2 Judge and former Area Representative for Herts and Middlesex, passed away in hospital on Saturday 13th August 2016.
Amanda’s passion for Showjumping spanned decades and many different levels. She was a former owner of Trent Park Equestrian Centre, where during the 1970’s – 1980’s she was one of the first show organisers to be running affiliated shows from a permanent venue within easy reach of London and the Home Counties. Alongside the role of Show Organiser she also ran an extremely busy livery yard and riding school from the same premises; both of which still run successfully today.
Amanda first became a British Showjumping Judge in 1975, before taking on the role of Deputy Area Representative in 1990 supporting the late John Gosheron across the Herts and Middlesex area. Taking over the reins as Area Representative in 2007, Amanda was committed to encouraging membership growth wherever she could. An incredible advocate for the sport, Amanda would welcome new members with the same warmth and camaraderie as she did those that she had known for years and was also one of the first to extend an offer of help to anyone who asked for it.
As a Level 2 Judge, Amanda was regularly seen officiating at many of the shows within the locality where she was known for always being firm but fair. A popular and well-liked figure by competitors and show organisers alike, Amanda was both extremely personable and she will be missed greatly within the sport.
Amanda is survived by her daughter Gina and grandson Thomas to whom British Showjumping extend their sad condolences.
The funeral will be held on Friday 26th August for close friends and family.
