An Emotional win Anna Sumner and Our Dun in the Pony Discovery Championship

The top 30 pony/rider combinations from preliminary rounds 1 and 2 came forward today to compete in the Pony Discovery Championship Final. The first round of this Championship saw two different height sections compete before going forward into the mixed jump off.

The 138cm section saw only one clear round that put Ella Garlick riding Kells Diamond Lad through to the jump off.

The 148cm  ponies were on top form with 10 riders going clear in the first round in the Andrews Bowen Indoor Arena.  The clear rounds were coming thick and fast as the ponies sped around the course in an attempt to qualify for the jump off.

The competition reached a new level when the jump off commenced. It was obvious to the audience that every rider entering the arena had their eye on the prize as some impressive times were recorded.

It was rider Anna Sumner and Our Dun who wowed everyone as they finished with a clear round and an incredible time of 29.49. Try as they might no other combination could catch Anna and finished in a clear first place.

Anna was ecstatic with her win and could not wipe the smile from her face. “He jumped amazing. Usually I knock the first fence. He has done so much for me”. The combination has only been together since October last year and have already placed 2nd and 5th at this year’s British Showjumping National Championships.

Anna is also a member of Chipping Pony Club which qualified her to receive a second accolade. This year Pony Club is acknowledging the highest place Pony Club member by presenting them with a Pony Club sash and rosette. This saw Anna decorated in sashes and a rug as she made her victory lap.

The win was an emotional one for the pair as Anna and her mother expressed their pride and admiration for Our Dun, also known as Donald.

Anna’s mother Abby said “He’s wonderful, just a phenomenal pony, such a good attitude and gives 100% all the time, 110%  when we need it”.
