Wednesday got off to a great start for Jessica Hewitt when she claimed the first Championship of the day. From 23 starters, 14 combinations jumped clear and went through to the jump off, Jessica from South Elmsall, riding Pendini, was seventh to go in this hotly contested jump off, finishing the round in an invincible time of 27.82 seconds. Eleven year old Jessica is not a newcomer to success at this event having won the Golden Bear Tiny Tots Championship twice in previous years, however this is her first season riding Pendini and she was thrilled with the win.
 
Fourteen year old Darby Ward has had an amazing last season in 138cms, and on consistent form today winning the SJA Services National Primary 138cms Championship riding More Than Milton. Darby who is from Alderley Edge, Cheshire was tenth to go in the jump off taking and holding on to the lead in 28.10 seconds. Darby, who had tremendous support from all her family, was delighted with her first ever win at this event and has now qualified for the Bilton Ward Developments Midget & Mighty Masters Relay on Saturday night. The family have owned More Than Milton for two years, Darby will be handing the ride over to her younger sister Taylor at the end of the season.
 
Tim Wilks from Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire was the ultimate winner in this years Great Coffee Pony Strarspotters Riding Mrs Lea Popelys Rusty Boy, the combination were late to go in the jump off and Tim did everything necessary to clinch the title. Rusty Boy has qualified for Horse of the Year Show with the Popelys daughter Ella, however a lucky Tim has the ride for the duration of this show.
 
Daniel Moseley and Billy Buttercup won the HBF Equestrian National 1.30m Classic, the penultimate combination in the jump off, they flew round in 39.84 shaving a second of their closest rivals.
 
The Grants Veterinary Services National Under 18 Championship was won by Chloe Aston from, Tring riding her 13 year old mare Tripoli. Chloe was third to go in the jump off and retained her lead with a winning time of 32.52 seconds, ‘Tripoli likes to run on, so I decided to let her instead of trying turn inside the fences and I think this made her quicker’ commented Chloe. Chloe has recently taken on the ride and only jumped the mare at a couple of shows including Auvers in France where she was placed third in the Grand Prix.
 
Whitakers make a clean sweep of the Ladies and Gents Championships as sister and brother combo win the final two classes of the day. A delighted Louise Whitaker won her first ever Championship at Scope when she lifted the crown in last nights Riverside Air Conditioning National Ladies Championship. Louise took the lead early with a time of 39.23 seconds which proved unbeatable, even though she gave herself a good run for her money with the penultimate jump off ride on Dazzle II who finished in third place. Louise was delighted with the result having only sat on Rostaar for the first time the previous day, the combination are off to Italy for their next trip out.
 
A thrilling competition ensued in the Midland Equestrian National Gents Championship, Robert made his bid for victory towards the end of the jump off creating a superb round in 39.91 seconds with the stallion BF Utopia. Robert has only been riding this former ride of Tim Gredley’s for just a couple weeks but described him as quick everywhere!
