Senior Newcomers Display Exciting Talent for the Future

The second class in the Andrews Bowen Indoor Arena this morning was the Senior Newcomers Masters. It saw 25 starters come forward to try and grasp one of the four sought after qualifying places for Horse of the Year Show 2015.

The class started strong with 17 riders going clear. Anthony Condon had a tense round, with a misjudged distance nearly costing them a pole. He managed to pull it together and successfully rode Zira II to produce a clear round and get through to the jump off.

In the jump off the course proved challenging with many riders clipping rails and the final element of the course tested many riders.. Anna Edwards narrowly missed out on the top spot after completing a fast and calculated round in a time of 44.72 seconds. However it was Jessica Botham on Adam Botham’s seven year old Danny V who took the winning spot and secured  her Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) entry.

When asked how she felt, Jessica said: “It feels amazing, I’m so chuffed with him. He’s been so close [qualifying for HOYS] and consistent he really deserves it.” Jessica’s husband and owner of Danny V, Adam Botham, had this to say: “She deserves it, she rode like a star. There were 10 to go after her and we said to each other before she went in she cannot afford to post a slow clear because there are too many after you, so I’m glad it paid off.”

Three other riders also secured their place to HOYS including Anna Edwards on Darling, owned by Bina Ford, Tony French riding stallion Kinsdale Houdini and Anthony Condon riding his own Zira II.
