Staffordshire and the West Midlands Win the National Team Jumping Championship

Saturday 15 August 2015

The Grand Ring played host to some spectacular classes today including the National Team Jumping Championship Final. Spectators were treated to the team parade at the start of the show which enabled the riders to showcase their horses and created a fabulous atmosphere.

The teams were made up of 4 members who compete at different heights with 2 rounds with faults carrying through determining the teams who will be in the jump off

The teams selected one member each to compete in the jump off. Area 17s Claire Shepherd completed the jump off first with an impressive time of 46.80 seconds. Representatives of the Derbyshire Devils (Area 21) and the Berkshire All stars, went on to complete the course with just tenths of a seconds difference from Claire’s time.

With the rankings looking so tight Katie Shaw, the last rider of the round representing Staffordshire and the West Midlands, knew that she had to put on a particularly spectacular performance if she wanted to clinch the title for her team. Katie said “when I watched the first couple go, I thought that I was really going to have to go some to catch it, I didn’t think that he (Fools Business) would be as quick as he was, but he jumped super”.

With a great start to the Jump off, Katie flew through the course in an almost foot perfect round. The clock was stopped a remarkable 42.59 seconds, rocketing the Staffordshire and West Midlands team comfortably into first place.

Abbi Goodwin, the 0.9m jumper for the winning team was delighted at the result. Abbi’s success was shared with her sister’s horse Jasmina V. The owner of the horse shared her sister’s delight and said “they all jumped really well, everybody rode really well, it’s a well deserved win”.

Stefan Morgansen who competed in the 1.0m section of the class was overwhelmed with the team’s success, he said:  “I am over the moon, delighted… I’m just so pleased, its been a very good day”. Camille Crow who jumped the 1.10 metre round, was extremely pleased and appeared somewhat speechless following the team’s lap of honour.

Today’s show was a wonderful exhibition of show jumping talents from all corners of the UK. It also demonstrated a lovely example of the advantages of team Jumping as all members supported each other immensely.
