Lily Freeman Attwood Takes the Top Spot in The Stable Company HOYS 138cms Qualifier at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre
Monday 09 May 2016
Fourteen year-old Lily Freeman Attwood fought off sixty-two other starters on Sunday to take the top spot in The Stable Company HOYS 138cms Qualifier at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire.
Spectators were treated to fierce competition on Sunday as each combination aimed to book their place in The Stable Company HOYS 138cms Championship Final, which will run during the prestigious Horse of the Year Show in October.
The first two rounds of the class were well fought out and six combinations made it through to the Matthew Hoskins designed final jump off. All of the remaining competitors jumped with the aim of delivering a treble clear and with three Horse of the Year Show places at stake, the class came down to the final two pairs to go.
The fastest treble clear came from Lily, who is based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and she rode My Bugsy Malone, a 24 year-old black gelding owned by Emily Freeman Attwood and Lara Whiteway. Lily and My Bugsy Malone were drawn as the last to go and after having seen the combination before them produce a treble clear, they knew that only a fast and accurate round would do. Riding with pace and precision, Lily duly achieved her treble clear and did so in 47.67 seconds.
Twelve year-old Iwan Carpenter from Holywell, Clywd took second place on Susan Carpenter’s 17 year-old bay gelding Little Boy De Carmen. This combination achieved the only other treble clear of the class and crossed the finish line in 50.98 seconds.
Third place went to 13 year-old Tahnia Jordan Jones from Swindon, Wiltshire who finished with just four faults in 58.58 seconds on board Oakhurst in the Spotlight, a 15 year-old appaloosa gelding.
