Dodson & Horrell 0.85m & 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds at Aintree Equestrian Centre

Spectators at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool had the opportunity to watch two ultra-competitive Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds on Saturday and competitors jumped over a 0.85m track and a 1.05m track.
All of those competing were doing so with the goal of qualifying for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships which will also run at Aintree Equestrian Centre (18th – 22nd November).
Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round
Thirty-seven challengers jumped in this second round and with around two-thirds of the field able to produce an initial clear in round one, an exciting twenty-five horse jump off followed. Fourteen combinations went on to achieve a double clear, but with just twelve qualifying places on offer, timing proved to be crucial.
Katie Benbow, aged 14, from Goole, North Humberside picked up an early birthday present after she secured the win on board her father Simon’s 9 year-old chestnut mare Ruby St Loise. Katie rode with both pace and precision to produce the fastest double clear of the class by nearly three seconds. The combination stopped the clock in 25.79 seconds.
Hope Elliott, from Sunderland, Tyne & Wear finished in second place after producing her double clear in a time of 28.47 seconds. Hope rode her own 10 year-old grey mare Bright Prospect.
Securing third place was Becky Brougham from Northwich, Cheshire with her own 20 year-old bay gelding Lord Peter. This combination produced their second foot perfect round in a time of 29.04 seconds.

From the initial starting field of twenty-six, sixteen put in a first round clear, whilst twelve then went on to jump a double clear and in doing so, secured the qualification places. It was Angela Mills from Haswell, County Durham who took victory in this second round and she was riding her own 11 year-old bay gelding Quids In II.
Angela and Quids In II were drawn as the last combination to go in the jump off and they used this to their advantage as they knew that only a fast clear round would do. They posted their double clear in 32.51 seconds.
Second place went to 15 year-old Frankie Carr from Lydiate, Liverpool and Pipsqueek T, a 10 year-old bay roan gelding owned by Lydia Parrott. The pair produced their double clear in 33.40 seconds.
Finishing in third place was Campbell Thompson from Tarporley, Cheshire with his own 15 year-old chestnut gelding Croft Getto Kid. This combination clocked their double clear in 33.71.
