Emma wins the EquestrianCleanrance.com Newcomers with Whisper XI

Rowallan Activity Centre in Ayrshire hosted an EquestrianClearance.com Newcomers second round this weekend which saw forty six starters compete round Mark McGowan’s testing course.

Out of twenty one combinations that made it into the second round, fourteen jumped clear again to fight it out for the two Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) tickets and five Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival tickets that were available.

Drawn fourth to go in the final jump off with no clears ahead of her twenty four year old Rachel Walker knew there were some good riders to follow. Riding her own six year old bay mare It’s Delux, Rachel put in a very competitive clear round in a time of 38.89 seconds. This round proved good enough to hold onto second place and one of the two HOYS tickets.

Following Rachel into the ring was Nigel Coupe from Lancashire riding Susan Simmons’ eight year old bay gelding Golvers Hill. Having watched Rachel’s round and knowing what had to be done Nigel rode a quick round coming home in 36.38 seconds but unfortunately having one fence down meant he had to settle for fifth place in the end.

Following Nigel into the ring was local rider Trevor Nicholson from Ayrshire. Riding Holly McGowan’s six year old grey gelding Hallmark Ayrton III Trevor decided not to chase the clock and put in a very good clear in a time of 40.53 seconds. Although this put him in to second place for a while he was soon to be moved down the line to finish in third place.

It was eighteen year old Emma Stoker from North Humberside that topped the field riding Carron Nicol’s eight year old dark brown gelding Whisper XI. Being drawn over half way down the jump off order and with only two clears ahead of her Emma understood what was needed to take the win. Jumping a superb clear in a time of 38.88 seconds she went into the lead and could only sit back and watch the remaining competitors.

It was last to go Nigel Coupe on his second ride of the jump off which gave Emma a run for her money. Riding his own seven year old bay mare Show Girl IV Nigel used last draw to his advantage and was up on the clock to the last fence. Unfortunately the last fence fell to leave Nigel with four faults in a very quick time of 35.34 seconds and fourth place.

First and Second place qualify for Horse of the Year Show 2011 is the 4th – 9th October at Birmingham’s NEC.

First to Fifth place all picked up qualification for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival 2011 which will take place from Sunday 28th August to Saturday 3rd September at Stafford County Showground.
