Shropshire/Powys Graham Hudson bids a fond farewell

Wednesday 01 June 2016

Dear All,

By now you will have heard that after 20 years I have finally been given time off for good behaviour and will be stepping down as British Show Jumping’s Area Representative for Area 25.

I have enjoyed the challenges and successes of Area 25 over the years and, in particular, the fundamental role of trying to ensure that BS members at all levels with all grades of horses/ponies get equal and increasing competitive and training opportunity within the Area. Thank you to the many volunteers: - Mum’s, Dad’s and members who, along with our shows, have helped deliver these objectives in such a variety of ways to help keep 25 Alive. Sadly, there are still Area members who have to travel many miles to compete regularly so the work must go on.

Thank you also to the many of you who supported my efforts to join the old Board of British Showjumping (BSJA) and my passion to help modernise the governance of our sport. I know that everyone will not agree but the new constitution set up a little over 3 years ago gives members far more opportunity to influence their sport than the old “club” we had before. For example, Area 25 has the opportunity to occupy 25% of the Members Council (8 places), sadly, only 1 from our number has put their name forward since it was formed 3 plus years ago. BS is a member’s organisation which you substantially help fund and it is your sport! If you feel strongly join in and use your voice where it must be heard.

OK enough of that! I am very happy to help if any of you want to know more about the BS Area Rep role or getting more involved with BS: - 01691 652898, 07768 771470, grahamhudson@dial.pipex.com

That’s it except to say a very big “thank you “to all past committee members and the current committee: - Suzanne Gill, Kate Lewis, Jill Membury, Emily Morris, Toni Potts and Kim Webster.

(Actually, the current committee could not believe that I had been Area rep for so long as they know I am still only 21. Still, like me they are also getting the opportunity for time off for good behaviour.)

Good luck and best wishes,

Graham
