Alex Thompson takes the top spot in The Champagne Cave Winter Grades B & C Qualifier at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe

Alex Thompson from Nottinghamshire sealed the win in The Champagne Cave Winter Grades B & C Qualifier which took place at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe in Bedfordshire.

One-third of the initial starting combinations jumped clear around David Cole’s twelve fence-track to make it through to the jump-off. Five of those combinations went on to produce a further clear, which meant it was all down to the clock to allocate the two qualifying tickets on offer for the Championship Final which will be held at the prestigious Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, West Sussex in July.

Alex, on board Liberty Bramwell’s Classy Cat, a 9 year-old Belgian-bred mare by Clarimo, set a blistering pace that no one could match. Whilst leaving all the jumps up, they crossed the finish line 40.77 seconds, nearly 7 seconds faster than second placed Amy Ovens.

Amy and her own F Palma, a Dutch-bred bay mare that she has competed for the last 4 years, were the closest faultless combination. They crossed the finish in 47.64 seconds.
