Emma Jane Ashworth and Sarah Froggett speed to glory in Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Rounds.

This weekend saw another two Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round competitions unfold at Bury Farm and Northallerton Equestrian Centres.

Kicking June off with a win, was Emma Jane Ashworth, with her mother, Nicol Browne’s, Lagans Trending Star, riding to victory in the final jump off, beating the competition by a remarkable 7.38 seconds.

Course Designer Stuart Reeve Young’s 12 fence track proved tough for the field of 52 starting combinations, as only two finished with the triple clear.

Winner Emma Jane commented: “My horse was absolutely amazing.

“She’s 8 years old, I got her last September, that’s when we started jumping British Novice. We got the double clears in both Newcomers and British Novice to qualify for Second Rounds and this was our first attempt at qualifying for the final.

“The course was quite tricky; it was spooky and technical but it is a second round so it is supposed to be! She is really brave and not spooky, so the fillers didn’t bother her.

“Her last round was the best because she loves going against the clock and is very good at turning back tightly. She’s really brave, really honest, and really reliable. She just does it, she’s a quick mare.”

Second placed Angus Aucott was the only other rider of the class to finish on the triple clear, in a time of 48.70 seconds, with Lioto Corein, earning them their ticket to the final at the British Showjumping National Championships at Stoneleigh in August.

Sunday, 2nd June saw the second Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round of the weekend, this time at Northallerton Equestrian Centre. 31 horse and rider combinations took on Course Designer and 2023 British Showjumping Volunteer of the Year, Keith McVittie’s, track.

Another hard-fought competition, saw five riders ultimately finish the qualifier on a clean sheet, with the triple clear needed to secure their ticket the final. Of the riders, it was Sarah Froggett, who posted the fastest time, with her own Michigan DN. Stopping the clock, at what proved to be an untouchable time of 38.40 seconds, Sarah soared to victory an amazing 6.49 seconds faster than second place.

Sarah and Michigan DN have had a busy 2024 season to date. Jumping British Showjumping classes all around England, they have already notched up a remarkable 30 top ten finishes, including a second place finish at the weekend in the 1.00m Open the same day as her win in the Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round.

Taking second place was Emily Hobson with Victoria Mudd’s Ilectric Van De Axelhoeve Z in a time of 44.89, ahead of Bethany Hodgkinson and Stephen Hodgson’s Divine Secret, who’s time of 46.40 seconds, secured them third place.
