Skye Higgin is a winner at Sentower Park in this week's International Round Up

Skye Higgin is a winner at Sentower Park

Skye Higgin enjoyed a successful show at Sentower Park in Belgium, with a win and a third on Fly For You.

The partnership hit immediate winning form in the 2* 1.40m Speed, Skye and the nine-year-old Quaprice Bois Margot x L’Arc De Triomphe mare outpacing their 93 rivals by an impressive 1.75 seconds.

Twenty-four hours later, they jumped into third place in the world ranking 2* 1.45m.  Only eight of the original 70 starters conquered course-designer Bart Hendrix’s 12-fence track, Skye and Fly For You posting another clean sheet to finish 1.67 seconds behind the winner, Spain’s Mariano Martinez Bastida on Quark De Preuilly Z.

Laura Renwick is in the money in Spain in this week’s International Round-up

Laura Renwick was consistently in the money all week in Gijon, Spain.

Enjoy CK Z kicked off the week for Laura with third place in an early 4* 1.50m.  Thirty-nine competitors tackled course-designer Frank Rothenberger’s 12-fence two-phase track, Laura and Pamela Wright and Charlotte Rossetter’s 11-year-old Echo Van’t Spieveld x Coronado mare finishing only 0.52 seconds behind the winner, France’s Emeric George on Dune Du Ru.

Laura slipped the home-bred eight-year-old Kosmos A (Arezzo VSL x Namelus R) into fourth spot in the 4* 1.50m two days later.  Eleven of the original 26 contended round two of this world ranking Winning Round competition, Laura finishing 2.59 seconds off the pace.

Laura guided another home-bred, the eight-year-old NFS Angelina (Arko III x Couleur Rubin), into third in the 51-strong 2* 1.45m Speed 0.70 seconds behind the winning time.  Joe Fernyhough was close on her heels for fourth with Calcourt Countdown.

Robert Whitaker picked up third in Thursday’s 35-entry 4* 1.45m Speed with Chatondo, the Chacco-Blue x Cartoon 14-year-old 3.46 seconds behind the pace.

Robert’s consistent clear rounds throughout the week with Strike A Pose in the age classes earned the Leading Young Horse Award by a clear three points.  Patience has paid off as Robert has carefully produced this seven-year-old stallion, a lookalike of his sire, Robert’s former top five-star ride Catwalk IV.  Fourth in Friday’s Six and Seven-year-old 1.30/1.35m two-phase, the pair finished sixth in the following day’s Speed class and fourth in the seven-horse decider in the final day’s jump-off class three seconds behind the winner.

Joe was also in the ribbons earlier in the week, steering Calcourt Countdown into second in the initial 40-horse 2* 1.40m two-phase almost two seconds behind the winner.  Joe eased the 12-year-old Cancara daughter Cancari V Z into third in the 37-entry 4* 1.40m two-phase 0.90 seconds off the winning time, just ahead of Laura in fourth on Enjoy CK Z.

Millie Allen claims victory at the Stephex Masters

Millie Allen scored a win at the Stephex Masters in Brussels, with Quick Diamant HR.

It was no mean feat as 80 competitors came forward in the 2* 1.40m Speed but no-one could match Millie’s prowess against the clock on the Diamant De Semilly x Quidam De Revel eight-year-old and they secured victory by an impressive 1.64 seconds.  Tom Whitaker slipped the nine-year-old Klaudius into third.

Scott Brash eased new ride of five weeks Chadora Lady (Chacco-Blue x Nintender) into third in the 5* 1.50m.  Eighteen of the initial 50 competitors qualified for the jump-off, Scott and the 10-year-old mare jumping another clear round to finish 0.48 seconds behind the winner, Germany’s Daniel Deusser on Otello De Guldenboom.
