Claire Lewis and Master Wickham win the Retraining of Racehorses Bronze League Championship title

Claire Lewis, riding 12-year-old Master Wickham, is crowned winner of the  Retraining of Racehorses Bronze League Championship at the British Showjumping National & Academy Championships this afternoon.

Claire, from Derby, explained how Master Wickham is “fast, and rides like a pony!” She explained how he was “out of racing for 6 years. He did hurdles and chase fences. I had him straight from the track! He’s really easy going and just adapts to every single discipline – a real professional”.

The pair came third in the Royal International Working Hunter Championships and will be competing in the British Riding Clubs National Eventing Championships.

Libby Gill and Give Me a Chance followed closely behind in second place, and Kevin Whiting and The Wee Midget in third place.

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is British horseracing’s official Charity for the welfare of horses who have retired from racing. RoR raises funds from within racing to provide and maintain facilities for the care, retraining and re-homing of former racehorses and to promote awareness of the suitability of the retrained racehorse for other equine careers. Working closely with the sport horse organisations and media, RoR promotes the adaptability of racehorses to other equestrian activities and has a well-established programme of competition sponsorship.  In addition, RoR holds educational events across the country to help owners look after and train their former racehorses.
